Celebrate the National Tradesmen Day on September 20

The professional tradesmen, among whom are roofers, electricians, woodworkers, carpenters and many other skilled workers, are the backbone of every country. To recognize their work and to thank them, three years ago IRWIN Tools initiated National Tradesmen Day. Since then it’s held annually on the third Friday in September. This year it will be held on September 20 and celebrations as well as recognition events throughout the country will be coordinated. The National Tradesmen Day is there to show respect towards the contributions the tradesmen make to our society every day. They build our houses, churches, roads, the entire infrastructure. And to many of the tradesmen, their job is not just a way to make money, but a true calling.

With the population getting older and considering today the average skilled worker is 56 years old, the professional tradesmen needs more recognition and also the coming shortage of skilled workers needs to be addressed.

“By 2030, 79 million people will have retired, while only 41 million new workers will enter the workforce. Most vacated jobs will require training and expertise our young people are not getting.” (“Employing America” awareness campaign, MediaPlanet Publishing)

IRWIN Tools, the initiator of the Day, is a top manufacturer of a huge variety of professional tools (both hand and power tools).
